What Is a Vaccine Injury? Get Nationally Acclaimed Legal Representation

Common Vaccine-Related Injuries

Vaccines are key in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and protecting public health. However, in very rare cases, vaccines can cause adverse reactions, leading to injuries. Vaccine injuries refer to any adverse events that may occur following vaccination.

To address vaccine injuries, there are established systems in place to monitor and investigate reported vaccine injuries. For example, the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) is a centralized database for reporting and tracking potential vaccine-related injuries.

At Jeffrey S. Pop & Associates, we have handled thousands of vaccine injury cases, winning over 90 percent of them. Due to the seriousness of vaccine injury, we implore victims to seek legal assistance immediately. A vaccine injury will help prove your case and file a lawsuit for compensation.

Vaccine injuries, while uncommon, can occur. However, most people who receive vaccines do not experience severe side effects. In very rare cases, vaccines may carry a risk of adverse reactions leading to injuries, including:

  • Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS): While extremely rare, GBS has been associated with certain vaccines such as influenza (flu) vaccine. It is a neurological disorder responsible for muscle weakness and, in severe cases, paralysis.
  • Arm and Shoulder Injury: Injuries to the arm and shoulder, including the development of lumps or nodules, can result from inflammation. A common injury is Brachial neuritis, which involves inflammation of the nerves in the shoulder, causing pain and weakness.
  • Transverse Myelitis (TM): TM is inflammation of the spinal cord, often manifesting through pain, weakness, and sensory disturbances. It may result from infections, immune system disorders, or other unknown causes.
  • Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM): This is a rare autoimmune disorder that targets the spinal cord and brain. It typically follows viral infections or vaccinations and is believed to be caused by influenza vaccine.
  • Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP): This is a chronic disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nerves, leading to weakness, numbness, and impaired function. It is a form of chronic inflammatory neuropathy.
  • Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP): This is considered autoimmune because the immune system attacks and destroys platelets. Platelets are essential for blood clotting, and a reduced number can lead to easy bruising and bleeding.

What are the Signs of a Vaccine Injury?

Watch out for signs of a vaccine injury so as to take prompt action. If you observe any of the following signs after receiving a vaccine, consult with a healthcare professional:

  • Severe allergic reactions that often lead to difficulty breathing, swelling, hives, and fast heartbeat
  • High fever and persistent symptoms
  • Worsening injection site reactions causing severe pain, increased redness, or swelling
  • Neurological symptoms, including severe headaches, persistent vomiting, seizures, weakness, changes in vision, etc
  • Unusual bruising or bleeding
  • Persistent chest pain
  • Severe fatigue or weakness following vaccine injection
  • Blood in urine or stool
  • Organ or joint dysfunction
  • Limited range of motion
